Malaria and the malaria carrying mosquitos are present in Botswana. It is important that the following simple guidlines are followed to limit the chances of getting malaria.

Preventio is better than cure, therefore:

  • Take malaria prophylactics
  • Use insect repellant in the evenings
  • Wear longsleeve shirts and trousers and closed shoes at night

    Malaria Prophylactics

It is reccommended that you visit your doctor or local travel clinic before travelling to Botswana. Taking the prophylactics helps to prevent malaria. These tablets come in different strengths and your doctor will be able to reccommend the best medication for you.

    Mosquito Repellant

The use of mosqiuto repellant greatly reduces the risks of contracting malaria. Spray or cream repellants should be applied at dusk and will protect you from being bitten through the night. Repellant can be purchased in Botswana at most supermarkets or pharmacies.

    Mosquito Nets

Most of the lodges and tented camps will supply mosquito nets. Mobile camping safaris have tents with bulit in mosquito nets.

If you have any specific questions regarding malaria please do not hesitate to send us an email or give us a call.

Remember the best prevention is not to be bitten
